Motto:" 有志者事竟成 " by Mr Colin Toh
Telephone Conversation by Wole Soyinka
The price seemed reasonable, location
Indifferent. The landlady swore she lived
Off premises. Nothing remained
But self-confession. "Madam," I warned,
"I hate a wasted journey—I am African."
Silence. Silenced transmission of
Pressurized good-breeding. Voice, when it came,
Lipstick coated, long gold rolled
Cigarette-holder pipped. Caught I was foully.
"HOW DARK?" . . . I had not misheard . . . "ARE YOU LIGHT
OR VERY DARK?" Button B, Button A.* Stench
Of rancid breath of public hide-and-speak.
Red booth. Red pillar box. Red double-tiered
Omnibus squelching tar. It was real! Shamed
By ill-mannered silence, surrender
Pushed dumbfounded to beg simplification.
Considerate she was, varying the emphasis--
"ARE YOU DARK? OR VERY LIGHT?" Revelation came.
"You mean--like plain or milk chocolate?"
Her assent was clinical, crushing in its light
Impersonality. Rapidly, wave-length adjusted,
I chose. "West African sepia"--and as afterthought,
"Down in my passport." Silence for spectroscopic
Flight of fancy, till truthfulness clanged her accent
Hard on the mouthpiece. "WHAT'S THAT?" conceding
"DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS." "Like brunette."
"THAT'S DARK, ISN'T IT?" "Not altogether.
Facially, I am brunette, but, madam, you should see
The rest of me. Palm of my hand, soles of my feet
Are a peroxide blond. Friction, caused--
Foolishly, madam--by sitting down, has turned
My bottom raven black--One moment, madam!"--sensing
Her receiver rearing on the thunderclap
About my ears--"Madam," I pleaded, "wouldn't you rather
See for yourself?"
Q1. This poem is full of colours not just that of skin, what you think these colours signify?
The "colour" probably signifies discrimination of Black and White in the modern country. The landlady keep asking persona for his skin colour after persona told her that he's an African, probably shows that the landlady is a racist. Also the colour Red in the poem also shows the anger of persona which 'Red booth, Red pillar box and Red double-tiered Omnibus squelching tar'.
Q2. What does their dialogue reveal about these two characters?
Firstly, it reveal that the landlady was a racist as she keep asking the skin colour of the persona after persona told her that he's an African. The landlady probably scared to let 'Black' rent her house as she's discriminating the Blacks. However, the persona probably has known that many people still discriminating the Blacks although in modern world. The persona has said that "I hate a wasted journey -- I am African" shows that the persona probably knew that people will reject him because of his skin colour.
Q3. The poet dramatises a battle, who wins finally and why?
The 'battle' starts when the persona said that "I hate a wasted journey -- I am African", shows that the persona probably has prepared for a battle by knowing that people always discriminating Africans. The landlady began to 'Fight back' by questioning the persona "Are you Light or Very Dark?" The persona seems to have knew that the landlady is a racist by the time, however, the speaker speak like an educated people although he's very angry that the landlady was discriminating him. The speaker pretends politeness the entire time. The landlady seems to have won the battle by concluding that "That's Dark, Isn't It?" But the persona quickly tells her that "the rest of him" and ask the landlady "wouldn't you rather see for yourself". The landlady has won the battle by concluding the persona is black but the true winner is actually the persona as he has stay polite although he was discriminated by the landlady.

Today's motto: -
Question: Would you have treated Boyd or someone who is not of the same race as you differently? Why or why not?
No no no no no, we should never treated someone differently by looking at their skin coulour. It would be unfair to certain races. The are only one kind of human in the world, no matter what coulour their skin colour are, the one and only kind of human is human, so we should share the same rights no matter what race we are. Only retards, scums, degenerate, and son of a bitch will treated different races differently, one of the example is Mrs.Wilson, although she comes from a piece of kindness, however shows that she's *one of the examples above* as she ASSUME that ALL NEGROS ARE POOR, and she thinks that Boyd is no exeption. I am still angry about Mrs.Wilson now although she's just in the story. Her character symbolize ...... many of us, right?
However, I must added that not only races, we should treated everyone, no matter their age, background, classes, races, equally, as WE SHARE THE SAME EARTH, no people are 'special' and there should be no discrimination, prejudice, bias, stereotyoe at all. These words should not be inside the dictionary, can't we just get along?
We should never treated someone who in different races differently.
We should never treated someone who different from you unfairly.
We should treated everyone equally.
We share the same earth!!!

Messy Room by Shel Silverstein
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.
His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair,
And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp.
His workbook is wedged in the window,
His sweater's been thrown on the floor.
His scarf and one ski are beneath the TV,
And his pants have been carelessly hung on the door.
His books are all jammed in the closet,
His vest has been left in the hall.
A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed,
And his smelly old sock has been stuck to the wall.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
Donald or Robert or Willie or--
Huh? You say it's mine? Oh, dear,
I knew it looked familiar!
My thoughts on this poem
I think that this poem is a masterpiece as Shel Silverstein manage to use simple language to convey a deep, profound meaning about human character through this poem, which also called as 'tongue-in-cheek' humour.
This poem is rather humorous as the poet is just scolding and blaming himself at all, which he doesn't realize at first. The poet starts from blaming others for making their room so messy that there are even lizard on the bed, shows that the room is almost not a human habitation. However, in fact that the room was his and he is the one who make this room this messy, shows that the room is too messy that he doesn't think that the room belong to him. This poem is humorous by showing how clumsy and irresponsible the poet is.
This poem highlighted that human always take no responsible of their things and when they see mistakes, their finger will always point at other people first instead of think carefully, ' is it my fault?' The poem show these two aspects of human character by showing that the poet makes his home too messy that he cannot even remember that the room is his, and he started blaming others when he saw how messy the room was, but actually he is blaming himself instead.
